Once again, FIAP was pleased to be associated with the Beijing International Photography Week, popularly known as Photo Beijing. The 2019 event, held in Beijing 19-27 October, was themed on the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and Belt & Road.
During the event, a total of 57 Exhibitions, 31 Forums and 30 Communication activities were held. Aside the main venue at the China Millennium Monument, there were 11 sub-venues. More than 3,400 photography works and 98 new media video works were displayed.
ME AND MY MOTHER LAND -- FRIENDSHIP, HARMONY, AND DEVELOPMENT -- BELT AND ROAD EXHIBITION
Under the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between FIAP and China Artistic Photography Society (CAPS), a “Belt & Road” themed exhibition in conjunction with China’s 70th Anniversary – co-curated by CAPS Vice President Ren Guoen and FIAP Board Member David Tay -- was presented as one of the key exhibitions of this year’s event. Other key exhibitions included an exhibition of news photos by mainstream media, and 70x70 Imaging History of China which showcased the development of photographic art in China since 1949 as seen through the eyes of 70 photographic artists.
SILK ROAD YOUTH INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
FIAP was also one of the key organisations involved with the Silk Road Youth International Photography Competition – the first international youth photography event involving the countries along the Silk Road. Seven established photographers from Austria, China, France, and Myanmar served as judges for the competition which attracted 260,000 entries from 97,000 youths of 57 countries and regions. An exhibition of 196 accepted works was opened by China Artistic Photography Society Chairman Yang Yuanxin together with Jury Chairperson Zhao Shaohua (China’s former Vice Minister for Culture) and representatives of other organisations.
At the Photo Beijing Opening Ceremony, an awards presentation was held for winners of the 2019 Silk Road Youth International Photo Competition. Three of “The Light of Silk Road” Gold Award winners – Aung Khant Kyaw (Myanmar), Yan Pei (China), and Aimee Sluga (Australia) – received their prizes from CAPS Chairman Yang Yuanxing, Jury Chairperson Zhao Shaohua, and FIAP Board Member David Tay.
FESTIVAL PROMOTION EXHBITION
A “Festival Promotion Exhibition” Section was included at one of the sub-venues of this year’s event. Six organisations participated in this segment, including The Photographic Society of Singapore (FIAP Operational Member), to promote their respective events.
The exhibition was opened by China Artistic Photography Society Chairman Yang Yuanxin.
