Opening of the FIAP Permanent Exhibition Center in Langreo
Last weekend, on March 22 and 23, a Permanent Exhibition Center of the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) was opened in Langreo (Asturias) under the name “Semeyes del mundu-LLangreu/ Fotografías del mundo-Langreo” (“Photos of the World-Langreo”).
This was made possible thanks to the decisive and critical involvement of the City Council of Langreo and its Cultural Team, along with the Asemeyando Photographic Association and, of course, the crucial support of the Asturian Federation of Photographic Associations (FAAF), the Spanish Photographic Confederation (CEF), and the International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP).
The hall is located within the Municipal Eduardo Úrculo Art Gallery, where no less than 5 collections will be exhibited every year under FIAP’s sponsorship. This means internationally recognized collections from the Photographic Associations World Cup, International Biennials or authors enjoying FIAP’s recognition as masters.
Thus, Langreo, and by extension Asturias, position themselves once more in the cultural and photographic world map. It should be noted that the Photographic Camera Museum of Langreo, located in the Felgueroso movie theatre of the city, has been the first center of international photographic interest recognized by the Spanish Photographic Confederation.
The opening of the new hall was attended by Mr. Riccardo Busi, President of FIAP, and Mr. Joan Burgues Vice-President, along with the directos in charge of biennials in the confederation, Mr. Pedro Gutiérrez and the Secretary Ms. Marta Menéndez. All of the Asturian Federation Executive Committee was present representing their organization, as well as the presidents and representatives of the associations that form it, along with its president, Mr. Luis José Vigil-Escalera, Director of the new Exhibition Center. Representing the City Council of Langreo was its Mayor, Mr. Jesús Sánchez, and representatives of the socialist and popular municipal groups.
The hall opened with two exhibitions:
Níndulas by Frederic Garrido Villajuana (poster attached)
Les meves amigues by María Gracia de la Hoz (poster attached)
Both exhibitions can be visited until April 29th during the Art Gallery’s usual opening hours.
During the act, a commemorative plaque was unveiled and then a visit of the exhibited works was held, guided by Frederic Garrido, who, on the previous day, taught a workshop that was open to the general public, where he presented the way he understands photography and how one must reflect before pressing the shutter. The workshop was a success in terms both of attendance and in content, which made us consider, by demand of the attendants, future workshops with the same author but for a whole weekend.
